A Novel Potential Featuring Off-Center Circular Orbits

چکیده
In Book 1, Proposition 7, Problem 2 of his 1687 Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, Isaac Newton poses and answers the following question: Let orbit a particle moving in central force field be an off-center circle. How does magnitude depend on position onthat circle? this article, we identify potential that can produce such force, only at zero energy. We further map zero-energy orbits to finite-energy free motion sphere; duality is particular instance general result by Goursat, from 1887. The itself inverse stereographic projection, fact explains circularity system interest. Finally, additional integral - analogue Runge-Lenz vector Coulomb problem responsible for closeness our problem.

Pilot-wave dynamics in a harmonic potential: Quantization and stability of circular orbits.
We present the results of a theoretical investigation of the dynamics of a droplet walking on a vibrating fluid bath under the influence of a harmonic potential. The walking droplet's horizontal motion is described by an integro-differential trajectory equation, which is found to admit steady orbital solutions. Predictions for the dependence of the orbital radius and frequency on the strength o...
متن کاملCircular Orbits Inside the Sphere of Death
A wheel or sphere rolling without slipping on the inside of a sphere in a uniform gravitational field can have stable circular orbits that lie wholly above the “equator”, while a particle sliding freely cannot.

متن کاملCircular and Elliptic Orbits in a Feedback-mediated Chemostat
A chemostat with two organisms competing for a single growthlimiting nutrient controlled by feedback-mediated dilution rate is analyzed. A specific feedback function is constructed which yields circular and elliptical periodic orbits for the limiting system. A theorem on the stabilization of periodic orbits in conservative systems is developed and for a given elliptical orbit, the result is use...
